“I highly recommend Common Scents Training. We approached Emily due to our dog’s reactive issues. Emily’s approach is straightforward and non-judgmental. Her training instructions were easy to understand and put into practice. She has a deep understanding of dog behavior and has helped us understand our dog better. I only wish we had approached her sooner.”

Frequently asked questions
-
Yes! Because getting help for your dog shouldn’t feel financially impossible.
We offer flexible payment options for qualifying programs so you can start training now instead of waiting “until things calm down.”
Behavioral issues rarely fix themselves, and often get more expensive (emotionally and financially) the longer they’re ignored.
If you’d like to discuss payment options, just ask. We’ll walk you through what’s available.
-
Your dog’s day is structured, intentional, and productive. Not chaotic playtime or daycare-style free-for-all.
Each Day Train session includes:
✔️ Structured obedience work (place, leash skills, engagement, impulse control)
✔️ Real-world exposure and socialization (when appropriate)
✔️ Confidence-building exercises
✔️ Physical Exercise
✔️ Calmness training and nervous system regulation
✔️ Rest periods (because learning requires decompression)
We rotate between focused training sessions and structured rest so your dog can actually absorb what they’re learning. Overstimulated dogs don’t learn well — regulated dogs do.
At pickup, you’ll receive updates on what we worked on and what to practice at home so progress continues outside of training hours.
This is not daycare. This is education.
I do not use any techniques that are considered abuse and believe in LIMA (Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive).
-
Safety is non-negotiable.
Dogs are:Carefully evaluated before acceptance into the program
Structured and supervised at all times
Never placed in chaotic, unsupervised group settings
Only introduced to other dogs when it supports their training goals
Dogs who are reactive, fearful, or working through behavioral challenges are managed intentionally and never forced into situations they’re not ready for.
We prioritize:
Controlled environments
Proper leash handling
Structured crate or rest time
Slow, appropriate exposure
Your dog’s emotional safety matters just as much as their physical safety.
-
Most traditional board and train programs remove your dog from your life for weeks, “fix” behaviors in a highly controlled environment, and then hand them back to you with a list of instructions.
The problem?
Dogs don’t struggle in training facilities.
They struggle in your real life. Our Day Train program is different because:
✔️ Your dog goes home daily, so skills are built in real-world environments
✔️ You are coached alongside your dog, not left out of the process
✔️ We focus on emotional regulation, not just obedience
✔️ We build transferable skills, not facility-specific compliance
✔️ We prioritize long-term behavior change, not short-term suppression
Many board and train programs rely heavily on fast results using aversive tools or high levels of control. That can create obedience, but it doesn’t always create confidence or understanding.
We follow science-based methods, the CCPDT Humane Hierarchy, and a strict Code of Ethics. That means we focus on:
Why the behavior is happening
How your dog feels
And how to create lasting change in the environments that actually matter
This isn’t a “send your dog away and hope for the best” model.
It’s education.
For your dog and for you.Because sustainable results happen when the whole household understands the process.Item description
-
We use science-based, relationship-centered training methods that focus on how dogs actually learn, not outdated dominance theory or quick-fix suppression techniques.
I am certified through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) and follow their Humane Hierarchy and Code of Ethics. That means your dog’s emotional wellbeing, physical safety, and least intrusive effective interventions are always prioritized.
Our approach is rooted in:
✔️ Positive reinforcement
✔️ Marker training (clicker or verbal markers)
✔️ Desensitization and counter-conditioning
✔️ Confidence-building exercises
✔️ Structured leadership and clear communication
✔️ Nervous system regulation
The CCPDT Humane Hierarchy ensures we:
Address medical or environmental factors first
Modify antecedents (the environment and triggers)
Reinforce desired behaviors
We do not use fear, intimidation, or pain-based/aversive methods.
-
Yup! We’ve included video explanations, demonstrations, PDFs, and class recordings of each concept so that the material is presented in the way that works best for you and your learning style
-
For everyone’s safety, dogs must be current on:
Rabies
Distemper/Parvo (DHPP)
Bordetella
Proof of vaccination from your veterinarian is required before your dog’s first day.
If you have questions about vaccine schedules or titers, we’re happy to discuss, just reach out before enrollment.
