Dog Trainer Wanted — Common Scents Dog Training (Junction City, KS)
We train the untrainable. We welcome the misunderstood.
If that sentence gives you chills instead of confusion, keep reading.
Let’s get the hard stuff out of the way first:
This job isn’t for everyone.
You’ll deal with dogs who bite, lunge, scream, and poop in protest. You’ll meet owners who are heartbroken, frustrated, and convinced their dog is “beyond help.” You’ll sweat through sessions, get dirty, and occasionally get bruised. You’ll have to think on your feet, talk people off cliffs, and celebrate tiny wins that no one outside this job would understand.
Still here? Good. You might be our kind of person.
Here’s what the job actually is:
We’re looking for a dog trainer to join Common Scents Dog Training in Junction City, Kansas (550 Grant Avenue, Space A). You’ll lead private sessions, teach group classes, and help transform chaos into calm. Some clients will come to our facility. Others need in-home visits because their dog can’t safely leave their yard yet.
This is not a babysitting gig. You’ll be trusted to manage your own schedule, show up prepared, and get results. I don’t micromanage — if you need hand-holding, this isn’t the place for you.
The details:
Location: Junction City, KS + occasional in-home sessions
Schedule: Flexible, typically weekday evenings or weekends (your choice)
Pay:
$30–$50/hr for group classes (based on experience, certification, and continuing education)Private sessions: percentage of the package paid up front
Extras: Possible reimbursement for continuing education or certification programs and free training for your own dogs
Minimum requirements:
Hands-on experience training dogs (not just your own)
Currently enrolled in or graduated from a dog training program such as Animal Behavior College, E-Training for Dogs, Karen Pryor Academy, or similar
Must be willing to become Pet First Aid Certified
Bonus points if you’ve already earned:
CCPDT, IAABC, or Karen Pryor Academy certification
Strong group teaching skills: you can lead, educate, and keep a class of humans and dogs engaged
A self-driven attitude: you take initiative without waiting for direction
Who you’ll fit in with:
We’re a small, no-drama team that believes in psychology over punishment. We take the tough cases, the ones everyone else turns away. We don’t brag about “obedience” or “perfect sits.” We teach communication, trust, and real-life behavior change.
If you’ve got grit, patience, and a sense of humor, you’ll love it here. If you’re looking for a cushy gig where every dog is a golden retriever who just needs “basic manners,” this job will eat you alive.
